Why I love CrossFit:  I love our community that we have all created right here in Ozark.
My favorite part about coaching at Team 417: The people and seeing how their lives change as they buy into believing in themselves.
My passion outside the gym: God is my motivation and without him we have nothing. I am passionate about life.

Favorite Nasty Girl/Movement: My favorite nasty girl is probably Angie. My favorite movement is deadlift.
Why I love CrossFit:  I love CrossFit because of the health benefits it provides me with and I am more fit than I could ever imagine. Also, the community it brings to my life makes it harder to lack motivation and it makes working out that much more fun. Finally, the competition it bring out from the open all the way to the games is exciting and fun to be a part of, plus I like being the oddball in society and nobody gets it until they drink the kool-aid themselves.
My favorite part about coaching at Team 417: My first favorite part about coaching is being able to have fellowship with our members and get to know new people that I would have never met. My second favorite part of coaching is the actual process of helping someone improve on a specific movement then watching their face turn into pure joy when they accomplish that goal or master that movement. Lastly, watching athletes fully dedicate themselves and transform is like watching a butterfly jump up out of a cocoon, Nom saying son!
My passion outside the gym: I have a passion for spreading knowledge, love and compassion to others who may benefit from it no matter what walk of life they come from. I am a firm believer that we as humans have far greater potential than we show or work toward mentally, physically, physiologically, and spiritually. Knowing that I always have something to improve on and not wanting to be like everyone else keeps me motivated because that means there is always work to do and those are things that I believe will make the world a better place.

Mallory Lawson – Coach

Credentials: CrossFit Level 1; CPR and First Aid
Accomplishments: 2017 CrossFit Central Regionals Team; 2015 CrossFit Games Team; 2014 CrossFit North Central Regionals Individual
Athletic Experience: College Volleyball
I started CrossFit: 2012
Favorite Nasty Girl/Movement: Fran. Favorite movement(s) is bar mu, thrusters, cleans, box jumps; so I have four, oops. I would not have done CrossFit this long if I only liked one movement.
Why I love CrossFit:  I love CrossFit because as an adult we make decisions every day multiple times a day. The reason I first fell in love was coming into the gym and I did not have to make a decision. I walked in, socialized a little bit and the next hour was mine all to myself. All adulting was over for one hour.
My love grew the more comfortable I became with the movements and terminology. Of course, the people I worked out with helped with the love as well. I love the variety of movements, opportunities to improve myself, relieve stress, and to be an athlete.
My favorite part about coaching at Team 417:  My favorite part about coaching at 417 are the people. I love being able to spread my love for the sport to others with my coaching. I want other people to feel what I feel when they learn a new movement, increase their mobility, stop hurting from a previous injury, and/or love the feeling of being a big kid. I love being able to be a part of someone’s health journey.
My passion outside the gym: My passion outside of the gym is foods. I enjoy cooking and preparing healthy, wholesome meals for my family. My motivation comes from wanting to be better. I had an injury throughout high school and college and four knee surgeries. My doctors told me I would be limited to intramural sports and no running or jumping. I wanted to defy the odds. My motivation is to stay strong and keep moving for me. I do not want others to tell me what I can and cannot do.

Lacy Emmert – Coach

I started CrossFit: 2012
Favorite Nasty Girl/Movement:  Favorite Nasty Girl is Cindy. Toes to Bar and Pullups are my favorite. Gymnast at heart 😉
Why I love CrossFit: I am a competitive person by nature. I love pushing myself and being challenged by the group. It’s not always just a physical challenge but a mental challenge as well. It’s addicting – but in a good way!
My favorite part about coaching at Team 417: I enjoy encouraging other women to find a love for pushing themselves physically and mentally. They learn that they are stronger than they think, and can accomplish more than they realized they ever could. They realize they are strong and confident enough to step outside their comfort zone. That is a feeling of accomplishment!
My passion outside the gym: I was a competitive gymnast and started coaching gymnastics when I was 16. My love for coaching and leadership started early and continued to develop. For the past 8 years, I have been coaching competitive cheerleading. It’s a huge commitment, but one that allows me to mentor athletes ages 6-18. Similar to Crossfit, it is challenging physically and mentally and teaches so many life lessons.

Daryl Shamel – Coach

Accomplishments: 2014 CrossFit North Central Regionals Team
Athletic Experience: College Volleyball
I started CrossFit: 2011
Favorite Nasty Girl/Movement: My favorite nasty girl workout would have to be “Annie”. I always joke about my favorite movement being the sit-up but it’s true. I never fail at them (unlike everything else) and core strength is important for all the other movements!
Why I love CrossFit:  I love CrossFit because it is constantly varied. We use so many movements in a variety of ways. I always seem to learn something new. I also love CrossFit because it has led me to make some really awesome friendships! The community is what brings people back day after day.
My favorite part about coaching at Team 417: My favorite part about being a coach is seeing people push themselves further than they would on their own. It’s so cool to see people achieve goals they set and we as coaches are apart of helping them with that.
My passion outside the gym: My passion outside of the gym is my family. They motivate me to be a better mom, wife, and friend everyday. I want to be a strong Godly woman for my daughter. CrossFit is only such a small part of our lives but it can help and motivate us in so many ways.
